1% pin in solid pewter with aged gold plating, fixed with screw posts and knurled nuts: it won’t move, even on the road. Our premium version, made in our family workshop in France.
Where does the 1% come from?
It all started in July 1947 in Hollister, California: a motorcycle rally turned into a brawl and made the front pages. According to legend, the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) replied that 99% of motorcyclists were law-abiding citizens. The AMA says it has never found any record of saying so, but the line stuck, and some bikers proudly claimed to be “the other 1%”. Since then, the 1% has become one of the strongest symbols of the biker world.
Aged gold plating
Our premium version: the pin is cast in solid pewter, like all our models, then given an aged gold plating. The gold keeps a patinated look that brings out the relief without shining like brand-new jewellery.
Screw fastening: it stays put
Instead of standard posts, this pin has threaded posts, each with its own knurled nut. A free-turning notched ring inside the nut lets you tighten firmly without damaging the leather or fabric. Once screwed on, it won’t turn and won’t get lost.
Important: pre-drill the leather
The threaded post is thicker than a standard pin post. You must pre-drill the leather with a 1 mm (0.04 in) tool before fitting the pin. Forcing it without pre-drilling may damage the pin.
