Solid pewter pin featuring the 16-spoke wheel of the Romani flag, known as “La Roulotte”. Hand-applied antique silver patina, in 18 or 22 mm. Made in our workshop in France.
This pewter pin, signed Traveller Shop, features the 16-spoke wheel of the Romani flag, adopted in 1971 at the first World Romani Congress near London. The wheel, or chakra, recalls the Indian origins of the Romani people and stands for travel. Among French Travellers it is often called “La Roulotte” (the caravan): it evokes family, the road and respect for one’s elders.
The spirit of the road
In the custom world, this wheel speaks of freedom and the nomadic life. From the horse-drawn caravans of the past to today’s motorcycles, the love of the horizon remains the same. This pin pays tribute to travellers, fairground folk and bikers who ride their own road, with respect for the clan. Worn on a leather vest, it shows pride in one’s roots.
Handmade, piece by piece
Each pin is cast in solid pewter in our workshop, then given a hand-applied antique silver patina: no two are exactly alike.
